Understanding Etsy's Fee Structure

Etsy charges a variety of fees, and knowing how they work is vital for setting competitive yet profitable prices:

1. Listing fee

Everytime you list an item on Etsy, regardless of whether it sells or not, Esty will take a small flat fee of $0.20 per listing.

For example, if you list 10 items, your total listing fee will be 10x0.20 = $2.00

2. Transaction fee

For every product sold, Etsy will also charge a 6,5% on the total sale price (item price on the web + shipping + gift wrapping costs) as a transaction fee.

For example, if you sell a product for $50 and charge $5 for shipping, the transaction fee is: (50+5) x 6.5% = $3.58

3. Payment processing fee

This is where things get tricky. If you use Paypal, they usually charges the standard 2.9% plus $0.30 for each transaction. But if you use Etsy payments, this numbers can range between 3% and 6.5% per sold item, varied by countries. Here're some flat rate in different regions:

  • In the US: 3% + 0.25 USD.
  • In the UK: 4% + 0.20 GBP.
  • In Canada: 3% for dosmestics and US orders, 4% for international orders. Plus 0.25 CAD.
  • In Australia: 3% for dosmestics orders, 4% for international orders. Plus 0.25 AUD.
  • In EU countries (Germany, France, Netherlands, Turkey, etc): 4% + 0.30 EUR.
  • In Japan: 6% + 0.30 USD.

Unlike the transaction fee, this fee also counts regional-specific fee such as VAT, other taxes, government charges and levies into the total sale price.

4. Ads fee

Running advertisement and promotion is a good way to gain traffic and generate sale. In Etsy, you can use the integrated Etsy Ads or Offsite Ads. The money spend on this should be calculated in the Etsy Fee Calculator as well, since it can impact your final profit.

For Etsy Ads, you will set a daily budget for each campaign. For Offsite Ads, a fee is charged once your product is sold through the ad listings.

The current rate is 12% for shops with more than $10.000 in sales for the last 365 days and 15% for others.

5. Other hidden and optional fee

Every Etsy store has to pay for their Listing, Transaction, Payment processing, and Ads fee. Most Etsy Fee Calculator will estimate price and profit based on these 4.

However, in some cases, there are regional-specific fees or additional payment for specific cases that can't be accurately calculated, such as:

  • Currency conversion fees and exchange rates.
  • Off-platform transactions that are not integrated with or protected by Etsy.
  • Regional taxes and regulatory fees.
