How much do Shopify backups cost?

For a typical small-to-mid store, budget $9 to $39 per month. That is the honest range: Talon Backups opens at $9/month, TinyBackup at $11/month, and both Rewind and BackupMaster start at $19/month for their entry order band.

What you are actually paying for at those prices differs, and it is worth being precise about it:

• $9/month (Talon Basic) buys daily automatic backups, on-demand backups, 1 year of history and 1,000 product backups — but orders and customers are an optional add-on, not included.
• $11/month (TinyBackup Tiny) buys 150 order and 1,500 product backups, plus unlimited backups of customers, pages, blogs, themes, metafields and shipping profiles.
• $19/month is the crossover point: at that price Rewind’s Backup + Restore covers up to 300 orders/month with real-time backups and a 365-day history, and BackupMaster’s Essentials covers the same 300 orders/month with 365-day retention and unlimited cloud storage.

What automated backups cost for high-volume Shopify stores

This is where the sticker price stops being useful. The two apps built for scale price on monthly order volume, and both publish their bands:

• Rewind uses nine order bands on its Shopify pricing page: 0–300, 301–600, 601–1,000, 1,001–1,500, 1,501–2,000, 2,001–3,000, 3,001–5,000, 5,001–10,000, and 10,000+. The publicly displayed $19 (Backup + Restore) and $99 (Protection Suite) figures are the 0–300 band; the price for each larger band is revealed by the selector on Rewind’s pricing page, and Rewind notes that customised terms are only considered for annual contracts with a minimum $3,000/month commitment.
• BackupMaster publishes the deepest ladder we found: Plus starts at $79/month for up to 1,500 orders and then steps through 2,500, 5,000, 10,000, 15,000, 30,000, 40,000, 50,000 and onward in published bands up to 1,000,000 orders/month, with a “1,000,000+” option beyond that. Its own guidance: move up a tier if you consistently exceed your band for three months — it does not auto-upgrade you.
• Talon Backups prices on product count instead: $9 covers 1,000 products, $19 covers 5,000, $35 covers 20,000, and $69 covers 40,000, with order and customer backups as optional add-ons at 50k / 200k / 400k records.
• TinyBackup prices on both together — its largest published plan, Large at $33/month, covers 600 orders and 6,000 products. Above that, pricing is not published on the listing.
• Matrixify is not order-priced at all: its tiers are per-file limits, so a 100,000-SKU catalogue costs $50/month (Big) or $200/month (Enterprise) regardless of how many orders you take.

The practical takeaway for a high-volume store: a backup app is very unlikely to be your most expensive app, but the difference between the $19 band and a 50,000-orders/month band is real money, and it is worth pricing your actual band before you commit rather than budgeting from the headline number.

If you run BigCommerce and Shopify side by side

Two of the vendors here cover both platforms, which matters if you don’t want two separate backup contracts:

• Rewind publishes a separate BigCommerce price list: Pro $45, Business $69, Plus $119, Growth $169 and Enterprise $349 per month, banded from 0–600 orders up to 8,000+.
• BackupMaster ships a BigCommerce version at the same $19 / $39 / $79 tiers, though it is billed through Paddle rather than the app store, and it flags upfront that BigCommerce orders are backup-only because the platform does not let third-party apps write existing orders.
• Matrixify is not a BigCommerce backup tool, but it does import from BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Magento and Lightspeed if you are consolidating onto Shopify — see our guide to migrating to Shopify.

Using a Shopify backup tool for compliance and audits

“Backup” and “audit-ready” are not the same purchase, and most of these apps only do the first. If an auditor, an enterprise customer or your own security questionnaire is driving the requirement, these are the things that actually get asked for — and what each vendor publishes about them. This is a factual comparison of published vendor claims, not legal or compliance advice; confirm requirements with your own advisers.

• An independent attestation. BackupMaster states it is SOC 2 audited annually against the Trust Services Criteria, with reports available on request under NDA, is GDPR compliant, and stores data on Microsoft Azure with encryption at rest and in transit. Rewind lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 on its pricing comparison and maintains a security portal at security.rewind.com. None of the other five listings publishes a SOC 2, ISO or GDPR claim — that is not proof they lack one, but it does mean you would have to ask.
• An audit log — who changed what, and when. BackupMaster puts detailed audit logs and external portal access on its Plus tier ($79/month and up). Talon and TinyBackup both ship a change-difference viewer that shows what changed between versions, which serves the same investigative purpose day to day but is not an access log.
• A defined retention period. Only some vendors commit to one in writing: BackupMaster and Rewind both publish 365 days; Talon publishes 1 year of history on every plan; AClone publishes data-storage windows of 3, 30, 60 and 90 days by tier; TinyBackup publishes retention only for its free tier (1 month). Storelapse and Matrixify publish none.
• Evidence you can hand over. Auditors generally want an artefact, not a dashboard. BackupMaster Pro and above let you download backups as ZIP files and sync them to Google Drive; Matrixify exports to Excel, CSV, Google Sheets, Dropbox or FTP/SFTP, handling files up to 20 GB. Those exports are what you attach to a request.
• Scope. Check the coverage matrix before you assume something is protected. BackupMaster documents that on BigCommerce, orders are backup-only; Talon treats orders and customers as an optional add-on rather than a default; Storelapse covers products and nothing else.

If compliance is the reason you’re buying, the shortlist narrows quickly: BackupMaster Plus and Rewind are the only two options here that publish both an attestation and a retention commitment.

How do Shopify store backup apps work?

You might think that since your store is hosted on Shopify, the platform should be responsible for safeguarding your data.

Well, that’s not entirely true. Shopify is responsible for keeping its platform safe for merchants. But your store level data like product information and images do not fall under their responsibility.

What this means for you is that you have to figure out ways to backup your Shopify store data while building and scaling your business. This is a big problem as 1 in 4 eCommerce stores have lost vital data.

That is where third-party backup and restore apps come in.

These apps work by taking snapshots of your store at any given time and storing that version on a cloud server. You can then retrieve that version if you made an error and need to bring it back.

It is worth being clear about what falls inside that snapshot. TinyBackup

TinyBackup ‑ Backups & restore is a newer but fast-rising app built by TK Digital Ltd and launched in January 2024. It carries Shopify’s Built for Shopify badge — the platform’s highest designation for performance, design, and integration — and holds a 5.0 out of 5 rating across 55 reviews (checked 7 September 2026).

TinyBackup’s pitch is “install, activate, and forget”: once installed, it automatically captures your store in the background and keeps a full, timestamped history of every change, so a recent recovery point is always available. When something goes wrong — a bulk edit, a rogue app, or a deleted collection — you can review exactly what changed and restore a single product, a single field, or your whole store.

One correction worth making to how this app is often described: TinyBackup does have a $0 tier, but the listing labels it “Developer only” and limits it to 50 product backups with one month of history. It is a way to trial the mechanics, not a way to protect a live store for free.

Talon Backups creates snapshots of your store’s backup history so a mistake will not cripple your business. Whether you’re updating a theme, modifying product descriptions or editing store information, your store’s history is backed up — with a full year of history on every plan, including the $9 one.

Talon Backups has an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5 from 43 reviews on the Shopify marketplace (checked 7 September 2026).

Talon Backups pricing (September 2026)

Talon Backups offers 4 plans priced by product count rather than order volume, each with a 7-day free trial:

• Business — $19/month: 5,000 product backups, with optional 50k order and customer backups.

Storelapse

Another option on the Shopify marketplace is Storelapse ‑ Backup & Restore, built by SyncX (the team behind the Stock Sync inventory app) and launched in July 2022. Unlike every other option here, Storelapse is completely free — there is no pricing table on the listing at all.

Storelapse provides you with a timeline of product changes that happen in your store. From added products to product updates and deletions, you can select which specific version you want to restore, down to individual fields.

Two caveats to weigh honestly. First, Storelapse still shows 0 reviews on the Shopify App Store as of 7 September 2026, more than four years after launch, so there is no user track record to lean on. Second, its scope is products only — no themes, orders, customers or metafields. If your store is mission-critical, treat it as a free safety net for catalogue edits rather than a backup strategy.

AClone: Backup & Duplicate makes it easy to duplicate your store’s content across stores. Launched in November 2022, the app copies products, images, collections, blogs, pages, customers, themes, files, metafields, metaobjects, navigation menus and URL redirects from one store to multiple Shopify stores.

AClone was created by ArenaCommerce, a Shopify agency based in Ho Chi Minh City. It rates 4.8 out of 5, but from only 4 reviews (checked 7 September 2026), with the most recent review dating to May 2024 — so treat the rating as thin evidence rather than a strong signal.

The important structural difference: AClone meters by items per job and by how long it stores your data, not by order volume. Backup and restore proper only appears from the Premium tier up; the cheaper tiers are duplication tools.

It is a Built for Shopify app from ITissible in Riga, launched in July 2017.

Matrixify lets you transfer and update almost any field in your store including tags, product variations, collections, metafields, B2B companies, payouts, store credits and translations. Common use cases include:

Matrixify prices on per-file record limits, not order volume, which makes it unusually cheap for large catalogues:

• Basic — $20/month: 5,000 products, 2,000 customers, 1,000 orders and draft orders, 300 collections and 10,000 translations per file.

Whichever you choose, install it before you need it — backup apps only capture data from the day they are installed, so a snapshot taken after a bad bulk edit is of no use to you.
