Firstly, what is Shopify’s pricing? What’s the total cost to own a Shopify store?
Well, a Shopify subscription with the default online store builder is just $39 USD per month, but there are also other costs to consider. The $39 is just for keeping your store up and live; if customers purchase something from your online store, you’ll have to pay a Shopify Payments fee and a transaction fee.
Shopify Fees Calculator - Compute Upfront Costs & Shopify Transaction Fees
Our Shopify fee calculator (also called Shopify transaction fees calculator, Shopify pricing calculator, or simply Shopify calculator ) makes it easier for you to create a basic financial projection of all the costs entailed in running an online store. These are the only information that you need to feel in:
- Your average order value (the average of all your sales)
- Average orders per month (the average of all the orders you ship per month)
- Your payment gateway:

When you finish building your Shopify online store, you’ll need to connect to the payment gateway. Shopify has a feature called the Shopify Payments gateway, which accepts most popular payment methods such as VISA, Master Card, American Express, Apple Pay, Google Pay and others. However, the Shopify Payments gateway is available only in certain countries; if your store is registered in one of the countries below, rest assured you’ll have access to Shopify Payments.

Shopify Transaction Fees Explained
Depending on your Shopify plan, whether it’s Basic Shopify, Shopify or Advanced Shopify, the Shopify transaction fees, credit card rates, and additional fees are different.
See the section below for a comprehensive breakdown of these various fees.
- Online credit card rates: If your customer purchases a product from your online store, this rate will be applied.
- In-person credit card rates: If you sell offline, this rate will be applied.
- Additional fees: You have your choice of payment gateway, but if you use one other than Shopify Payments, such as PayPal, you’ll have to pay both a PayPal fee and a Shopify fee.

Shopify Fees For US Merchant:
Additionally, Shopify charges the following fees for each plan:
- Shopify Basic: 2.9% of the value of the transaction + 30 cents.
- Shopify: 2.6% of the value of the transaction + 30 cents.
- Shopify Advanced: 2.4% of the value of the transaction + 30 cents.

04. Why Do You Have To Pay a Shopify Transaction Fees?
On Shopify’s pricing table, you may notice that there is a feature called ‘fraud analysis’ included in all Shopify plans. This means that when an order has been completed, you can rest assured that the transaction has been cleared and there is a genuine customer at the other end.

Which Shopify Plan Should You Choose?
You might be curious about which Shopify Plan to choose: Shopify or Basic Shopify? Maybe Advanced Shopify? We recommend you to get started with the Basic Shopify plan. Give it a try for a few months and upgrade to a higher plan when you’re experiencing steady growth.
Just keep in mind that Shopify fees differ in each plan. As such, transaction fees get lower as you move to a higher plan.
Thus, if you find yourself paying huge transaction fees in a Basic plan, you might consider moving to Shopify or Advanced plan. The good thing about Shopify plans is that as you move higher, you get more features.
Another tip to save your money is to subscribe to a 1 or 2-year Shopify yearly plan. It’s a big initial payment but you’ll save money in the long run.
